The women’s golf team ended the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic Tuesday in eighth place out of a field of 23 teams.

Wyoming shot a +56 during the Classic, with a total team score of 920 (307, 309, 304). It was 30 strokes better than their score from last year’s Classic and their third highest finish as a team since September.

Junior Juanita Rico led the Cowgirls in the individual standings, tying for 21st and tallying a total score of +11 at 227 (76, 75, 75).

Freshman Stacey Blunt finished tied for 23rd with a score of +12 at 228 (76, 79, 73). Blunt’s score of 73 in the final round tied a season-best, according to Wyoming Athletics.

Lone Cowgirl senior Molly Black finished at +15, tied for 37th place. Sophomore Dana Zamprelli, sophomore Taylor Smalley, freshman Emily Wood, and redshirt junior Jenna Zamprelli finished with scores of +22, +26, +28, and +28, respectively, according to Wyoming Athletics.

Portland State finished first in the team standings at +7 with a score of 871. New Mexico State (+35), 48th ranked BYU (+38), UTEP (+42), and Northern Arizona (+44) rounded out the top five in the team standings.

Senior Suteera Chanachai helped New Mexico State reach that second place finish with an individual score of even par at 216, good enough for a tied third place finish.

Northern Colorado sophomore Carleigh Silvers and Portland State sophomore Britney Yada both finished at -3, the only two golfers with scores under par to finish at the top of the individual standings.

Yada’s teammate, senior Kalyn Dodge (E), and UTEP junior Shang-Fan Huang (+3) finished out the top five.

The Cowgirls will finish their season at the Mountain West Conference Championship in Phoenix, Ariz. beginning April 14.
