Cowgirls lose in front 7,274 in Arena Auditorium Thursday


Wyoming’s run through the WNIT came to an end Thursday night when Colorado knocked off the Cowgirls 70-58 in Laramie.

Thursday night’s loss was the final game for Cowgirls Randi Richardson, Jade Kennedy, Hillary Carlson and Aubrey Vandiver. Carlson led the Cowgirls with a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. Vandiver kicked in 15 points while Kennedy and Richardson scored seven and two, respectively.   

“The play of the two seniors from Wyoming really gave us the opportunities that we needed; we just  came up a little short with the plays we needed when we fought back into it,” head coach Joe Legerski said. 

The Cowgirls ended the first half down 39-28 and struggled to stop Colorado’s outside shooting giving up seven 3-pointers in the first half accounting for 50 percent of the Buffalos points in the first half. Colorado shot 55 percent from the field in the first half. Brittany Spears led all scorers with 19 points on 8-14 shooting in the first half.

Cowgirls battle CU tonight in WNIT PDF Print E-mail

The Wyoming Cowgirls will face the Colorado University Buffaloes tonight with the chance to extend their history of WNIT success while also overcoming their history against the Buffaloes. 

Wyoming is competing in the WNIT once again, having lost to BYU last season, in the same tournament. The Buffalos are playing in their third ever WNIT. Wyoming is 9-33 in its all-time history against Colorado.

Cowgirls get past Okla St in WNIT PDF Print E-mail

The brown and gold Cowgirls survived a big second half run from the orange and black Cowgirls to advance to the next round of the WNIT with a 75-71 win over Oklahoma State. 

Aubrey Vandiver led the way for the Cowgirls with 27 points and 10 rebounds while Chaundra Sewell, Bec Campigli and fellow senior Hillary Carlson all scored in double figures.
