ASUW gave $4,125 to the UW rodeo team for their 62nd annual Laramie River Rendezvous and discussed a 1.4 percent student fee increase at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The Laramie River Rendezvous, takes place each May with contestants from schools in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska.

Senate also discussed a proposal that would increase student fees by $13.74 for full-time students next semester, a 1.4 percent increase from what they are now. Full-time students pay about $44 in student fees.

Vice President for Administration Doug Vinzant and Vice President for Student Affairs Sara Axelson explained during the meeting that these increases were not apart of last year’s two-year fee increase plan, according to an ASUW press release.

These fee increases are for faculty health benefit and retirement program increases that are controlled at the state level and not handled by ASUW, according to the release.

The proposal will be presented to the Board of Trustees Friday, and the increase would take effect July 1.

Judicial Council members will now be required to resign from their current positions before running for the senate, presidency or vice presidency, according to a bill ASUW passed Tuesday.

The senate also passed the Student Senate Physical Responsibility Act, requiring senators to serve four hours of community service per semester. This would include volunteering with SafeRide and other service projects.

“I encourage the student body to explore the platforms of all of the candidates in order to ensure that the right people are chosen for the job,” ASUW Sen. Kyle Zakar said. “Student Senate plays a vital role at UW and it is important for individuals to be involved and have a say in who represents them.”
