MP Ashwini Vaishnav on Monday has raised the issue of Rashmi Samant. Rashmi is a victim of racism and cyberbullying. As being the first Indian woman to be elected as president of the Oxford University Students Union. She was forced to resign within five days of her appointment over several of her social media posts that were labeled anti-Semitic and racist. As Minister of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that this the land of Mahatma Gandhi and we will never turn our eyes away from racism. He further added that the government will take up an issue with the UK when required. Rashmi is forced to resign from her post. As her resignation seems to be a serious case of racism in the country.

What issue raised by MP?

BJP MP has raised this issue that in the UK racism is prevailing. He also added there appears to be an extension of attitudes and prejudice from the colonial era in the United Kingdom. He expressed his views that Rashmi is a bright student from Karnataka’s Udupi era. In her life, she has preserved and overcome every challenge in her life and became the first Indian woman President of the Oxford Student Union. Being a bright student from Karnataka she went to Oxford and there she was bullied. He further added that diversity needs to be celebrated also the treatment meet out to her was very wrong.

The matter

Rashmi Samant was cyberbullied. Not only this one of the professors of the University had attacked by parents. Due to the Hindu religious beliefs of her parents. All this issue came forward. As after her resignation it was believed that her life will be back to normal but then also the situation was not seemed to be controlled. At Oxford, she went for her Master’s in the energy systems. As her father is a businessman and her mother is a homemaker. In that election, she won by landslide. This issue came up just one of her old social media posts she was trolled.

Racism issue in the UK

Rashmi went back to her state and in her recent post, she added that her return to India was due to bullying. Not only this a recent interview of Meghan Markel has revealed the problem of Racism. Ashwini Vaishnav has asked EAM to work over this issue.
