Superman announced in Action Comics #900 that he will give up his U.S. citizenship.  Just in time too, since a university in the United Kingdom is offering a master’s degree in comic book writing this fall semester.

Dundee University located in the United Kingdom is offering their first master’s program in comic book writing and Christopher Murray, head of the English program at Dundee University and leader of the comic book program, couldn’t be prouder.  “I’m excited to be doing this.  It’s the kind of thing I was looking for 15 years ago and simply couldn’t find,” Murray said.

Murray said the program is unique because it is being offered as a master’s program. “Sure, there are people who have done Ph.D.’s in comics in the UK, I’m one of them, but this is a taught master’s program, which is very different,” he said.  Murray said his hopes that some students in the program will pursue an academic career in comics, but Murray said the English department is working closely with the college of art and design to offer other applications of such a degree.

The smell of wet paint fills the air.  One week–one week is all the crew has to design, wire and build the entire set for the first show of the UW Summer Theatre Serie–or as the old saying goes, the show must go on.

The UW-sponsored summer theatre’s first performance will be June 14 in the Fine Arts building.

Monday was the first day of rehearsals and stage work. The crew appeared energetic on the first day; everyone was feeling optimistic, even though they only had nine days to complete the design and technical aspects of the show.

David Demic: Do you feel that there was a fashion culture shock?

Heloise Auger: Yeah kind of because here it’s like people don’t really care about fashion. I’ve been in other places in the U.S. where people really do care. But here people have more of that “Cowboy” look. But that’s good too, because here I can have breakfast on Sunday and not care about I wear. That’s nice, too.

DD: What is European style all about?

HA: I don’t know because the styles are all really different. It’s hard to explain. We have areas where people don’t care about style as much as Americans. For example, in the U.S. girls have perfect hair and curls.

DD: What is your style specifically?

HA: I can find clothes in every kind of store. Yeah, some of them are going to be more classy and some days less classy, but not trashy. Some days I’m going to wear something classy like a black dress and some days I wear jeans with holes in them.

DD: What do you look for in jewelry?

HA: Like for my watch, I like watches for men, I don’t know why. I love my watch. Yeah, I love the earrings I’m wearing right now, because they’re true turquois. If I’m wearing a very big necklace, that’s the only thing I’m going to wear, same thing for the earrings.

DD: How do you balance your look?

HA; I really like basic. When I’m wearing something that’s not basic—when I wear something crazy—I feel like I need to balance it out with some more basic.

DD: In regards to perfume, how much is too much?

HA: During the day, I’m not going to spray a lot, but if I go to a party, I’m going to smell really good. I’ve been wearing the same one since I’ve been 16: Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. I did experiment with others, but I’m addicted to this one. It’s a pretty heavy one, but I’m faithful [laughs].

Random Fact:

I like to wear men’s watches!

There are many treasures to be discovered in the Red Desert.

One of Wyoming’s true adventures, many of Laramie’s outdoor hiking and camping enthusiasts will most likely find the rich and beautiful Red Desert a location worth visiting.

The Biodiversity Conservation Alliance website describes the Red Desert as being a maze of thousand-foot cliffs and pinnacles that stretch for miles.

The hidden treasure of Adobe Town lies at the heart of this desert wonderland, which is 180,910 acres of wilderness, according to the BCA website.
