For those wanting to pick up disc golf, here are tips to get you started
If you are looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon without breaking the bank this summer, pick up a disc and flick your wrist. According to the professional disc golf association website, “Disc golf is played like traditional golf. Instead of using a ball and clubs, players throw a flying disc or Frisbee.” Laramie resident Steve Kazlowski, a 10-year veteran of the sport, said the object of the game is to use various discs (drivers, mid ranges and putters) to land a disc into a basket in as few throws as possible. When playing on an object course, such as the UW course, the goal is to strike a target object specified by the course map. Scott Ebinger, the man responsible for the installation of the Spring Creek Golf Course in LaPrele Park, said disc golf is played by many members of the Laramie community. He added that the sport is affordable to try, a person only needs one disc to begin playing, which costs between $8 and $16. It is completely free of charge to play on either the UW course or the Spring Creek course. Maps for the UW course are available in the campus recreation office in Half Acre Gym and at Atmosphere Mountain Gear. Spring Creek Disc Golf Course maps are available at Atmosphere Mountain Gear as well as Terrapin, which is located at 753 North 3rd Street in Laramie. Email: |
