Katherine Patricia Flannery was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 10, 1964. She grew up in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, with her mother, Joan, father, Tom, and six siblings, including a twin sister.
Upon graduating from Archbishop John Carroll High School, Kate enrolled in Virginia’s Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, then transferred to Philadelphia’s University of the Arts two years later. Saints Colman-John Neumann School and Archbishop John Carroll School Flannery participated in the Riverfront Dinner Theater’s production of “Bye Bye Birdie” during her final year of high school.

Stage Career
Annoyance Theater, where she appeared in various productions, including “The Real Live Brady Bunch,” became an original member of her family. With The Second City’s National Touring Company after college, Kate went to Chicago and became a cast member.
During their time in Chicago, she and Scot Robinson founded The Lampshades. When they moved to Los Angeles in the early 2000s, they rejoined to play at comedy festivals across the country, including Aspen’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival with the duo they had formed in Chicago.
Flannery made her film debut at the Manhattan Theatre Club by playing the role of Neely O’Hara for “Valley of the Dolls” in New York and Los Angeles productions. “The Facts of Life” and “Three Feet Under,” a “Six Feet Under”-inspired comedy starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner, were two of her other L.A. credits.
Film and Television Career
“Can’t Stop Dancing” (1999) and MTV‘s “Spyder Games” (2001) were Kate’s first film roles. Aside from “Life Without Dick” and “Carolina,” she appeared in “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Boomtown,” “Crossballs: The Debate Show,” and “The Bernie Mac Show” in 2002, 2003, and 2004 respectively (2004). Meredith Palmer, the alcoholic single mother, played by Flannery on “The Office,” appeared in 186 episodes over nine seasons beginning in 2005. Short films “The Heir Apparent” and “I’m Not Gay” were also released that year.
During her time on “The Office,” Kate appeared in the films Danny Roane: First Time Director (2006), “Wild Girls Gone” (2007), “You” (2009), “Love or Whatever (2012),” and the short films “Jesus People” (2007) and “Coco Lipshitz: Behind the Laughter” (2009), as well as the T.V. series “Rise and Fall of Tuck Johnson” (2009) and “Wizards of Waverly Place” (2010). Since 2006, Kate has been dating NBC photojournalist Chris Haston. Haston was a stills photographer on “The Office” when they first met. Jane Lynch counts Flannery among her close friends, who accompanied her on her “See Jane Sing” tour as her right-hand woman.
