Day3 started out like the one before, without the fly mishap this time. After breakfast, we were met by our Maximo Nivel agent, Nancy. She took us on the local transit system. These chicken buses are covered in colorful paint and decorations. The bus started moving before we even sat down, it didn’t help that the seat I chose was about to fall out. The ride scared me, aside from almost falling through my seat, the buses drive dangerously close to the sidewalk.
Almost immediately I found myself wishing the bus driver would not run over the people on the side of the street. Following the bus ride we were one short walk from the orphanage. Which in fact was not an orphanage, instead it is a school which is not funded by the government. Local families send their kids there for day care, or education that they would not receive in a government funded facility.

The school was a small yellow building with three classrooms. I was in the classroom filled with 5 year old. The kids were very welcoming to us, and even though I didn’t know any Spanish, it did not stop the kids from chattering away in my ear. The morning was filled with arts and crafts mixed in with a short break for snack time and recess. As in every culture, us “big” kids were there to be jumped on by the little kids. The afternoon was rally time. This was a time for local families to come, play games, and have dinner. The kids were incredibly adorable, one of which worked with me and I was able to decipher one or two phrases of Spanish. Who knows, I might just sneak him home in my suitcase.
One of the games we played was water balloon fight, which left quite a few members of our groups drenched. After the bus ride home, we were able to relax with some salsa lessons. Here I was able to dance with a guy from Germany, and found out how much of a tourist destination Antigua is. Well off to dinner, night!
