Commander Mitchell Cushman of the Laramie Police Department said the collision was caused by a driver failing to stop at the intersection. The driver was cited for careless driving. He said he did not know if anyone had been injured.

“By the time I got to the scene, most of the passengers had already left,” Cushman said.

Cushman said it is important to slow down, make sure tires are properly inflated and have knowledge of how braking systems work in order to prevent future accidents when the weather causes slick roads.

He said most new cars have an anti-lock braking system to make stopping on slick roads easier. With older cars, a driver may have to feather the brakes to avoid sliding, Cushman said.

Traffic was rerouted while police and emergency crews worked on clearing the scene.  Information from UW risk management regarding damage the bus sustained and estimated costs was not available.
