The Wyoming Cowgirls (18-6, 8-3 MWC) were once again bested by TCU (17-8, 9-2 MWC) on Saturday in Fort Worth, losing 65-54. It was a close contest throughout the first half. At the 2:15 mark in the first half, the game was tied at 27-27 until TCU freshman guard, Briesha Wynn, converted a go-ahead fast break layup to give the Horned Frogs the lead, 29-27, with 35 seconds to play. That would be the final score at the half. The second half was a different story. TCU scored the first bucket of the half and never looked back. Wyoming’s last lead of the game was with 10:32 left to play at 43-41. That’s when Wynn promptly nailed a three-pointer to give the lead back to the Horned Frogs for good. The basket sparked an 8-0 run for TCU as they gradually put Wyoming in the rear-view mirror. On the bright side, senior guard Aubrey Vandiver had another great game. She went 9-15 from the field, including 4-5 from three-point range, and totaled 24 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Chaundra Sewell put up decent numbers herself, scoring 17 points and adding six assists and five rebounds. Vandiver and Sewell scored 41 of Wyoming’s 54 points. Collectively the Cowgirls shot 40 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range, and 69 percent from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Starr Crawford led the way for the Horned Frogs, shooting 8-14 from the field and totaling 16 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Senior guard Emily Carter added 16 points and five rebounds. The Cowgirls continue conference play at home Wednesday, Feb. 16 against the Utah Utes in the Arena-Auditorium. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Email the author: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it |
