The irony here is that not only did Rahm not compete on Tour last week, but neither did any of the players currently ranked higher than him. After winning the Open de Espana for a record-tying third time on October 9, 2022, Rahm’s OWGR ranking jumped from sixth to fifth.

He then finished tied for fourth at the PGA Tour’s CJ Cup, but that didn’t help him much because he was still in fifth place overall. In this article, we will get to know what happened to Jon Rahm at the Farmers Insurance Open. So, read the full article till the end!

Who is Jon Rahm?

Jon Rahm is a Spanish professional golfer who currently competes on the PGA Tour. He was born in Barrika, Spain, on November 10, 1994, and attended Arizona State University in the United States, where he played golf at the collegiate level.

In 2016, Rahm went professional and earned a reputation for himself on the European Tour with his excellent play. Many professional tournaments, including the 2021 U.S. Open and the 2020 BMW Championship, have won by him. To the best of my understanding, as of September 2021, Rahm was one of the best golfers in the world.

Two more eagles came from Rahm on the 10th and 11th holes, and three more came throughout the next three holes. The 28-year-old golfer ended tied for 14th after a pair of bogeys on holes 12 and 18. On the third day, he continued his strong play with six birdies, a bogey, and an eagle on the ninth hole. Jon Rahm was able to reach T2 because of his stellar play on the third and final day.

But, on the fifth hole, Jon Rahm made a mistake that cost him a shot at matching Dustin Johnson’s record of three consecutive PGA Tour titles, set in 2017.
Since he won the US Open in 2021 and the Torrey Pines Championship in 2017, he has considered both courses to be his favorites. Unfortunately for him, the Farmers Insurance Open was not his lucky tournament.

Jon Rahm commented on his play, saying:

“If it just stays in the rough I have an up-and-down chance, hits the cart path, and goes to a dead spot. I got the worst possible lie in the rough. Anytime I was in the rough, I was just dead as could be.”

“I knew it would be a tough day. I knew a couple under probably would have had a chance, but I just didn’t have it.”

If Jon Rahm had won the tournament, he would have been ranked No. 1 again. The latest Official World Golf Rankings place Rahm at No. 3.
