Reid became the Chiefs’ head coach on January 4, 2013, after signing a five-year contract on that date. When he signed the deal, he assumed the same authority over football operations as he had in Philadelphia. One week later, though, the Chiefs brought in John Dorsey, who had been an assistant coach under Reid in Green Bay, to serve as general manager.
During the Chiefs’ bye week in November 2020, Reid signed a new contract with the team. Reid will be making his third Super Bowl appearance as a head coach in 2021.
The league took notice of Reid’s success with the Packers, and on January 11, 1999, he was appointed as the head coach of the Eagles. Following the firing of Ray Rhodes after a 3-13 season, the Eagles explored hiring Mike Holmgren, who was Reid’s boss in Green Bay, as head coach. Mike Holmgren recommended that Eagles owner Jeff Lurie hire Reid, but Holmgren ultimately decided to join the Seattle Seahawks.
After the 2012 NFL season ended on December 31, 2012, Jeffrey Lurie stated that Reid will be fired as head coach of the Eagles. When Reid was finally let go, he had the longest tenure of any head coach in NFL history.
