On Saturday afternoon, the Wake County Public School System made the unfortunate announcement that veteran Millbrook Principal Dana King had passed away. The following was written in an email that was forwarded to the WCPSS staff:
“It is with deep sadness that I share with you that Dana King, Principal at Millbrook High School, passed away this morning. Our deepest sympathy is extended to her family and her Millbrook school community. I know you will keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.
We are grateful for the exemplary leadership, outstanding service, and unwavering dedication she has provided during her remarkable tenure with WCPSS. Throughout her career, she has had such a positive, long-lasting impact on students, staff, parents, our community, and our district.
She has touched the lives of so many. We will continue to share information as it becomes available to us. Again, please keep her family, colleagues, and school community in your prayers during this difficult time. “
What Was the Cause of Millbrook High School Principal Sudden Death?
A month before she was supposed to retire, on April 2, 2022, Dana King, the long-serving principle of Millbrook High School, passed away. No one knows the cause of death at this time.

Sebastian Shipp, the associate principal at Millbrook High School, said the school was informed on Saturday morning that she had departed abruptly unexpectedly. All of the students, educators, and staff are lamenting her death. Shipp continued by saying that there would be grief counsellors available at the school to help students and staff deal with the tragedy.
Career Insights of Dana King
In 1986, King began his career as an educator by taking a position as an English instructor at Sanderson High Education in Raleigh, which is located within the Wake County school system. After that, she worked her way up to the position of assistant principle at Athens Drive High School in Raleigh.
She was given the position of principal of East Millbrook Middle School in Raleigh in the year 1999, and then she was given the position of principal of Millbrook High School four years later. She was selected as the Principal of the Year in the Wake County school system in 2010, which is just one of the numerous distinctions that King has received.
Who is the New Principal of the School?
On March 1, the school system made the announcement that Brian Saunders, who had previously served as the principal of Asheboro High School and was currently serving as the principal of Baucom Elementary School in Apex, would be taking over as the principal of Millbrook.

On Monday, the town of Millbrook observed “Dana King Day,” which was a teacher workday but students did not have school. During the celebration, there were both speeches and presents, one of which was a memorial to Martin Luther King, Jr. that would be installed at the school. “We are grateful and fortunate that we were able to use Monday to commemorate not just her life but also her contributions as a pioneer in education,”
