Both Big Boi and Sherlita Patton have decided to end their relationship.
According to court documents acquired by TMZ, the Outkast member and real estate entrepreneur’s divorce has been finalized after 20 years of marriage. The couple had been married during that time.
The rapper, whose birth name is Antwan Patton, initially filed for divorce in April, and according to reports, the court entered the final divorce decree just this past month. In his filing, he asserted that there was “no reasonable chance of reconciliation” between the two of them, despite the fact that they had previously been living apart.
Reportedly, as a condition of the peaceful divorce, they both agreed to refrain from making any threats of “damage, maltreating, molesting, harassing, injuring, or abusing” one another in the future.
Big Boi, now 47 years old, and Sherlita, now 49 years old, tied the knot in March 2002 and have been blessed with two children together: a daughter named Jordan, now 27, and a son named Cross, now 21. In addition, he is the father of a son by the name of Bamboo, who is now 22 years old.
Sherlita filed for divorce from the Outkast performer for the first time in 2013, alleging that their marriage was “irretrievably destroyed.”
She also requested complete custody of their daughter as well as financial assistance. In his response, he asked for shared custody of Cross, who was 12 years old at the time, and stated that Sherlita was able to provide for herself.
The next year, the couple decided to get back together, and Big Boi attributed their decision to “Jesus” at the moment. In 2014, he said in an interview with TMZ, “A family that prays together stays together.”
After two years of marriage, Big Boi and Sherlita decided to execute a postnuptial agreement in secret to determine how their assets and liabilities would be split.
On Valentine’s Day in 2019, the singer of “Roses” paid tribute to Sherlita on his Instagram profile by posting a heartfelt message. Big Boi wrote, “Happy Anniversary Baby Girl, Luv u Mrs. Patton,” accompanying two photographs showing the couple posing together. The post was accompanied by the hashtags “#EmptyNestCountdown” and “EverydayIsThe14th.”
