Record weekend for track, field UW charts 4 top-10 finishes in Nebraska

This past weekend, the University of Wyoming track and field team recorded four UW all-time top-10 records at the meet, which is a total of 13 for the season.

The UW track and field team competed in Lincoln, Neb. for the Frank Sevigne Husker International.  The Cowgirls finished fifth out of nine teams with 51 points. The Cowboys finished sixth out of eight teams with 48 points.

Junior Lenyn Leonce placed 15th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.13. He ran a 22.10 in prelims, which was not only a personal best, but the 10th fastest time in UW history.

In the 5,000-meter run, Junior Abi Bever grabbed third place with a time of 17:33.63, landing her seventh in UW history. Freshman Holly Page placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:53.87, good for fifth in the UW record books. The fourth and final UW top-10 finish went to the 4×400-meter relay team of Sophomore Samantha Kee, Sophomore Lindsey Simmons, Sophomore Erin Kirby and Sophomore Candace Wollert with a time of 3:47.66, landing them in third at the meet and sixth of all-time in UW history.

Other notable performances included the women’s 800, in which Wollert finished first with a time of 2:13.60 and Junior Olivia Heaston finished 11th with a time of 2:19.18. Sophomore Caleb Her Many Horses finished the 1-mile race with a time of 4:12.76 for fifth place.  In the 60-meter hurdles, Junior Michael Tasker finished in 22nd with a time of 8.39, followed closely by Freshman Colin Herold, who finished 24th with a time of 8.43 seconds.

UW track and field will be competing Friday at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Saturday at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.
