Sexercise: How to keep off pounds while poundin’

So my friends and I were at a bar last weekend, and we were chatting about how many calories you can burn having sex or fooling around. One of the girls said, “I think that is why I was skinnier last semester.” The guy sitting next to her replied, “Unless you are just like a dead fish when you are having sex, then you don’t burn any calories.” As my friend got mad at the other one for calling her a dead fish in the bedroom, I thought about a brilliant new way to keep our New Year’s Resolutions. We can get in better shape by exercising outside of the gym, and I’m not talking about jogging in the park.

Drum roll please, your new workout routine has the potential to burn around 400 calories per session. I’m not kidding. Fooling around on your mattress, kitchen counter-top, or car can really turn into a sweaty workout that will benefit both you and your partner.

Step 1: Never forget to stretch. One of the best ways to get ready to be lustful is staying limber. Being flexible allows your body to relax in order to find enjoyment in new positions. One way you can stretch inside the bedroom is to bend over and keep your legs straight—you get the picture. Just remember to keep your form so that the stretch benefits you in every way possible. For example, don’t lock your knees because that will cut the blood flow to your brain and you could pass out.

Step 2: Teach your partner how the French kiss. You can burn 238 calories per hour making out. Think about it like Hot Yoga, the hotter the room temp, the more calories you burn. So instead of going to a sauna to burn calories, call it a night with your lover, stay home and turn up the heat.

Step 3: It’s getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes. If you choose to get naked with your hunny, do it slowly. Woman’s Day magazine said that “undressing actually burns 8-10 calories if you make it a part of the foreplay.” Here’s an idea for you, taking a girl’s bra off with your teeth burns as many as 80 calories.

Step 4: Round the bases and hit a homerun. According to Livestrong.com, “foreplay is roughly equivalent to an hour of watering the lawn while sex is equivalent to raking the lawn.” So with foreplay and intercourse you could burn more than 150-200 calories per half an hour. Incorporating squats into your movements, adding noises and switching positions will add to your calorie burn count. Your goal is to make it long and sensuous because ending with a wonderful “O” ramps up those numbers as well.

Step 5: Relax with a massage. Massages burn 80 calories per hour. Everyone loves a rubdown, and if you go slow and massage deep, a good massage can raise your heart rate and kick-start the calorie-burning mode. Plus you will leave your partner feeling relaxed and happy.

Step 6: Practice your kegels! This exercise is out of the bedroom, but it will produce ecstatic results. A great way to find your secret sex muscles is to stop urinating mid-stream. Those are the muscles that women need to squeeze to strengthen the walls of their va-jay-jay and men need to squeeze in order to delay ejaculation after orgasm.

Word of Caution: you probably will not get a six pack, or killer biceps. However, according to Livestrong.com, studies done by the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, having a healthy sex life can have “benefits including easing stress and depression, relieving pain, countering prostate cancer and promoting healing.”

Always remember to be safe, wear a condom, (they don’t add calories even if it is flavored,) and have fun!
