Defense something Glenn can hang hat on

What started out as a dream season quickly turned out to be a nightmare for Wyoming Cowboys football.
After winning four of its first five games, the Pokes looked poised for a run to the postseason, perhaps even a shot at the Mountain West Conference championship. Those hopes quickly faded as the Cowboys lost six out of seven games to finish the season a disappointing 5-7.
Wyoming offensive production decreased steadily as the year went on, leading to longtime offensive coordinator Bill Cockhill being fired at the end of the season. Of course, not all of the problems can be pinned on Cockhill. Wyoming finished the year ranked No. 108 in the country in turnovers, giving the ball to its opponents 31 times. Inconsistent quarterback play and untimely mistakes made the Cowboy offense fight an uphill battle the second half of the season.
One thing head coach Joe Glenn could hang his hat on all year was the Wyoming defense. The Pokes finished the season ranked No. 26 in total defense, despite giving up 121 points over the last three games. Still, it was UW defense that kept it in most of the games. Defensive coordinator Mike Breske deserves credit for a solid 2007 performance from his squad.
Offensive MVP: Devin Moore—Totaling 965 rushing yards to go with five touchdowns on the season, D-Mo slashing running style made him a threat to score from anywhere on the field.
Defensive MVP: John Fletcher—The sophomore defensive end tallied 10.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one blocked field goal on his way to being named Second Team All-MWC.
Rising Star: Greg Bolling— The Sophomore wide receiver had a solid 2007 campaign, averaging nearly 11 yards per catch. His season totals were 35 catches for 375 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games played. With his speed and athletic ability, look for Bolling to have a breakout season next year, as he will become one of quarterback Karsten Sween’s primary targets.
