Baseball team secures playoff position

By

The Cowboys secured their spot in the upcoming playoffs with a sweep over the Denver University Pioneers this weekend.

Due to snow Saturday morning, all three games were moved to a warmer Sunday.

Going into extra innings, the first game was a tight match. After numerous line drives, stolen bases and the strong pitching of Carlos Casas, the Cowboys managed a 6-5 win in eight frames.

Centerfielder Britt Marsh hit the first pitch to the fence, earning a triple. The Cowboys struck first when Marsh completed the square by stealing home when the opposing catcher fumbled the throw to home.

Cowboys find talent in young baseman

Ask most little leaguers what their favorite part of a baseball games is, and you’ll find yourself with a standard response. Sure they like to swing the bat, play catch and get grass stains, but it’s the snacks that have them coming back.

Cowboys reach for tie

After placing high in last weekend’s Ropin’ and Riggin’ Days Rodeo in Casper, the University of Wyoming men’s and women’s rodeo teams look strong going into the upcoming Northeastern Junior College Rodeo.

Football positions highlight players

The guys up front on the defensive line used to be a question mark for the Cowboys, but that no longer seems to be the case. John Fletcher has NFL size and strength combined with a natural ability for making plays. He comes into the spring as the focus of the defensive line and pass rush. Mitch Unrein is another huge pass rusher who surprised almost everyone but himself last fall. Any 3-4 defense needs a great tackle to center it and free up linebackers, and Fred Givens is as good as anyone at the position.
