The annual Presbyterian women’s Holiday Cookie Third World Craft and Equal Exchange Sale is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
“Crafters and artists from 34 countries will be there selling some very different things than what you see in the store,” Jane Hare, a member of the Presbyterian women’s group, said.
The proceeds from the sale benefit the people that create and sell the crafts.
“I feel great to think that I am a working woman today. This opportunity has afforded me to stand on my feet, taught me to speak and inspired me to look ahead towards a better future,” Kalpana Palma, an artisan from Bangladesh who sells embroidery, said on a brochure for the sponsoring company, Greater Gift.
Greater Gift is a non-profit program that is a branch of SERRV International. SERRV International is an “organization that promotes the social and economic progress of people in developing regions of the world by purchasing and marketing their crafts in a just and direct manner,” according to the SERRV Web site.
“There will be lots of jewelry and holiday ornaments,” Hare said.
She also said there would be fair-trade items, house wares, and an assortment of hand-made gifts. Holiday cookies and equal-exchange products like coffee, tea and chocolate are also available.
The event is at the Presbyterian Chruch, located at 215 S. 3rd Street.
“Our church isn’t that far away from campus. We hope you will join us and we hope to see you there,” Hare said.
