A young actor in commercials to begin his career, he is most known for his roles in “Saturday Night Live,” the “Wayne’s World” film franchise, “Austin Powers,” and the “Shrek” film franchise, among other projects.
Infancy and Adolescence
Michael Joh Myers was born on May 25, 1963, in the city of Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. His father, Eric Myers, worked as an insurance agent, and his mother, Alice “Bunny” E. Myers (née Hind), worked as an office supervisor and was a former member of the Royal Air Force.
They were originally from Liverpool, England, and had immigrated to Canada. Myers has two older brothers, Paul and Peter, who are both musicians. He grew up in a suburb of Toronto, where he attended Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute before graduating from Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in history.
Beginnings of a Professional Career
Myers began appearing in commercials as a child as young as two years old. A commercial for British Columbia Hydro with Gilda Radner was his first acting role, which he appeared in when he was ten years old.
After graduating from high school, he went on to work for The Second City’s Canadian touring troupe. His next journey took him to the United Kingdom, where he was one of the founding members of the improv company The Comedy Store Players, which is still active today.
Around the same time, Mike appeared with comedian Neil Mullarkey on the British children’s television show Wide Awake Club, which aired on ITV.
The next year, he relocated to Toronto, where he became a member of the cast of The Second City Toronto’s main stage production. The following year, he relocated to Chicago, where he trained, performed, and taught at the Chicago Improv Olympic Theater.

“Wayne’s World” was a critical and financial triumph, earning $183 million in worldwide box office revenue. Irene Myers took a brief vacation from the entertainment industry after appearing in two additional films, “Wayne’s World 2” (1993) and “So I Married an Axe Murderer” (1993), as well as another three years on “Saturday Night Live.”

Projects That Aren’t on This List
In June 2000, Universal Pictures filed a lawsuit against Myers for $3.8 million, claiming that he had breached a contract to produce a feature film. Initial plans for the project called for it to be based on his Saturday Night Live character Dieter, and the original deal was worth $20 million.
Eventually, Myers and Universal came to an agreement in which he promised to work with them on another project, claiming that he did not follow the first contract since his script was not ready. Myers was awarded a $500,000 payout. “The Cat in the Hat” was the film that resulted from this collaboration (2003).
One of his few non-comedic endeavors was the 1998 picture “54,” which was released in theatres. However, despite the fact that the film was not critically or economically successful, Myers received excellent feedback for his efforts.
In addition to “The Love Guru,” in which he co-wrote, co-produced, and starred, he has also been in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” (2009) and has appeared in supporting roles in “Terminal” (2018) and “Bohemian Rhapsody” (2018).
