“Not Again!” Yell the Rookie Season 4 Viewers Outraged by a Massive Format Shift in the Real Crime Trailer.
The ABC crime dramedy Rookie is now in its fourth season, and it is no longer a TV rookie. The show is a continuation of the creator Alexi Hawley’s and star Nathan Fillion’s previous collaboration on the ABC show Castle.
The Rookie premiered on ABC in 2018, adding a police drama to the network’s lineup, which already included Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor. The series has amassed a sizable fan base, who will no doubt be anticipating its return this fall.
What Is the Story of the Rookie About?
The Rookie’s premise is that, following a life-altering incident, John Nolan decides to pursue his dream of becoming an LAPD officer. The only problem is that he is in his forties, making him the force’s oldest rookie. He must not only adjust to his new job, but also persuade his colleagues that this isn’t just a midlife crisis gone too far.
With three seasons under his belt, it is safe to say that John has accomplished this. Now we get to see him and his fellow officers take on some of LA’s most dangerous criminals. This includes the season three finale developments in which crime boss Sandra de La Cruz, aka La Fiera, escaped custody and kidnapped Angela before her impromptu wedding to Wes.
Season 4 will begin here, as the promo for The Rookie shows the team tracking down Angela at a compound in Guatemala and heading down to rescue her. However, it does not appear that everyone will be able to escape safely, as a radio call for an officer down is issued.

When Will the Rookie Season 4 Be Released?
Season 3 production began in late 2020 as a result of some team members being diagnosed with COVID-19 positive reports. They worked hard, however, and the third season was released in January 2021.
Prior to the release of COVID-19, new editions of the drama were released in the second half of the year, primarily in September or October. The fourth season, premiere on September 26, 2021, will once again follow this pattern.
Who Is in the Cast of the Rookie?
Nathan Fillion, who plays John Nolan in The Rookie, is the film’s star. Fillion is a fan favorite known for his roles in Castle and the cult classic but short-lived TV series Firefly.
The following actors will join Fillion on the show at the start of Season 4:
- Wesley Evans – Shawn Ashmore
- Nyla Harper – Mekia Cox
- Ryan Caradine – Kamar de los Reyes
- Angela Lopez – Alyssa Diaz
- Sandra de La Cruz – Camille Guaty
- Sgt. Wade Grey, Richard T. Jones
- Jackson West’s Titus Makin Jr.
- Lucy Chen – Melissa O’Neil
