Despite the haters, Kobe is still king

You either love him or you hate him. There is no happy medium with Kobe Bryant. He has been on the top of both the most hated athlete list and the most loved athlete list by ESPN. There is no denying the fact that he is both amazingly talented and controversial.

Rage Geringer

Before this season began, sports analysts said Kobe was too old and washed up to be a dominant force this year in the NBA. However, if you were able to hear any sportscasters this last week over the sound of people jumping off the Packers bandwagon, you would have noticed that Kobe is quietly having one of his best years yet.

The very first preseason game of the year, which wasn’t until early December because of the oh-so-successful lockout, Kobe tore a tendon in his shooting hand. This would be equivalent to a supermodel getting a black eye or Obama not being able to lie. It is nearly impossible to do their job. But Kobe has fought through the pain, which shouldn’t be surprising. Even if you hate Kobe you have to commend him for his toughness. These days it seems most athletes would be out 2–3 weeks with a hangnail. Not Kobe. Not the guy that played last season with a broken thumb. Last week, he and the Lakers played three games in four days. Kobe scored 40 plus points in each game, not to shabby for an “old” guy with a torn up hand.

Sure, Kobe as a person is arrogant, immoral and rude. However, you can’t say he doesn’t care. Name a person who plays with more passion, heart, and tenacity than Kobe day in and day out. You can’t do it, because Michael Jordan is retired.

Of course I do not agree with Kobe as a human being. Whether he raped Aspen or not, he still cheated on his wife. Cheating is terrible… cough cough you know who you are. I was, however, surprised to learn that he did not get his nickname “Black Mamba” from this incident though.

So, go ahead and jump off the Lakers bandwagon because Kobe is old and can’t lead his team to a victory. That just leaves more room for me. The Lakers are fine. Kobe is fine. And one last thing..

Kobe is better than Lebron!

Feel free to email me and tell me otherwise. Until next week, holla at yo boy.
