Weather doesn’t hinder Laramie Equality March

Did the weather make you think twice about going out on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day march today?”

University of Wyoming faculty

and students along with Laramie residents brave the sudden winter weather and marched down Ivinson Avenue to Honor Martin Luther King Jr./Equality Day,
Monday. Even though the weather made the demonstration difficult, it was worth it to many of the participants.

After the march, there was a dinner reception for participants in the Wyoming Union, and many more events are planned throughout the week to celebrate the legacy of  Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the continuing struggle for equality.

The question above was asked by Brian Schueler during Monday’s Laramie Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March, which was held in celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day/Equality Day.

Laramie

“About two it was
really blizzarding, and I was going to say, ‘No I’m not going,’ but its important to celebrate what Dr. King stood for and the things that he struggled for. Despite the fact that we have an African-American president, there are still a lot of racial issues in this country.

“The work of Dr. King is still very, very important to pursue.”

Jessica Legaretta

Denver

“No. It’s an important day to remember because Martin Luther King [Jr.] helped pave the way for civil rights.”

Aimee GlockePhiladelphia“There are a lot of inequalities that are still present in our society today, and so we can learn from the past and incorporate those as part of our tactics today.”

Arien LoulawonBenin, Africa“I was surprised, that was my first march of [Dr.] Martin Luther King [Jr.] and I was really impressed that people actually came out.  You would have to be really determined to do something in this weather.”
