Waddell named Mountain West player of week

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming senior center Adam Waddell has been named the Mountain West Conference player of the week.

The weekly honor is the first of Waddell’s career and first for a Cowboy since Feb. 23, 2009.

Waddell led the Cowboys over Colorado 65-54, scoring a season-high 17 points, all in the second half. He also grabbed five rebounds and blocked a shot while committing no turnovers in a season-high 31 minutes of action.

The victory was Wyoming’s first on an opponent’s home court since Feb. 28, 2009 and ended CU’s 27-game non-conference win streak at the Coors Events Center.

Wyoming currently sits atop the Mountain West standings at 9-1 and continues its season by hosting UC Irvine in Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
