The University of Wyoming swimming & diving team remains undefeated as both the Cowboys and Cowgirls defeated conference opponent Texas Christian University last weekend at Corbett Pool.
With the victory, the Cowboys improved to 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Cowgirls moved to 2-0 in the MWC.
The Cowgirls won by a score of 168 to TCU’s 131, led by Stephanie Ortiz, who set school records once again. Ortiz broke the record in the three-meter board by scoring a 313.73 in route to her second first place finish of the day. Ortiz set the one meter record last week against New Mexico.
Other top performers for the Cowgirls included Lesley Young, who took won the 200IM, the 200M breastroke and swam on the record setting 200M-medley relay team, which also included Cassie Stelow, Shelby Bull and Kelsey Conci.
Single event winners included Stephanie Vint (200M butterfly), Cassie Stelow (50M freestyle), Aimee Stinson (1000M freestyle) and Kelsey Conci (100M backstroke).
The Cowboys were equally as impressive by posting a final score of 191.5 to the Horned Frogs’106.5.
Kyle Bogner won the one-meter diving competition, while the Cowboys had a trio of multiple event winners in the swimming events. Eli Bell won the 100M and the 200M-freestyle, while Matt Urich won the 100M and 200M butterfly. Alex Larkin won the 100M and 200M breastroke competitions.

Mark Korir has done it, again. The UW athlete will represent Wyoming at the NCCA Championships next week.
For the third consecutive year, UW will send one of its own to the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday.
Korir, for the third-straight year, will compete in the NCAA championships. Korir automatically qualified with his third-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional’s last Saturday.
Wyoming head coach Randy Cole said Korir has the potential to gain some prestigious honors at the national championship.
“Mark will have an opportunity to three-peat as an All-American,” he said.
Korir finished the 10k race with a time of 29:33 and led the Cowboys to a sixth place finish out of 15 teams, while the Cowgirls finished ninth.
“This was one of the best team efforts on both sides this season for the Brown and Gold,” Cole said.
The men will start the NCAA Championship 10k race at 12:48 p.m.

The Cowboys dominated Pac-10 foe Stanford in a dual on Friday night and then took advantage of the home mat by competing extremely well in the Cowboy open on Saturday.
In eight matches against Stanford, the Cowboys grabbed five wins and defeated the Cardinals handily, 34-10.
The first win came from redshirt freshman Michael Martinez, who took a 10-3 victory over Matt Sencenbaugh in the 125-pound weight class.
Sophomore Cole Dallaserra followed Martinez with a victory at 141-pounds. Dallaserra grabbed four points for Wyoming by notching a 10-1 major decision over Stanford’s Timmy Boone.
Cowboy Cody Chipperfield defeated Max Rosefigura to grab a 4-0 decision at 149-pounds while redshirt freshman Brock Smith gained the next victory for the Pokes at 157-pounds. Smith rushed Lucas Espericueta from the stop, forcing Espericueta on his back. The freshman didn’t stop until Espericueta’s shoulders were flat on the mat, and captured the pin fall two minutes in.
174-pound Cowboy Shane Onufer answered Espericueta’s pin with a pin of his own over Stanford’s Victor Haug just 1:54 seconds into the match.
The Cowboys also were victorious at the 184-pound and heavyweiht due to a Stanford forfeit.

Afam Muojeke did something Friday night not even Michael Jordan accomplished in his career. Muojeke scored 31 of the Cowboys’ 84 points in his freshman introduction to NCAA basketball, as the University of Wyoming rolled over Cal State-Bakersfield 84-58 in the Arena-Auditorium.
Muojeke made the best of his first career start for the Cowboys, playing 33 minutes, scoring 31 points, grabbing five rebounds and snatching three steals.
But the freshman’s 31 points are nothing new for Muojeke, as he is no stranger to scoring.
As a senior at Genesis One Preparatory School in Mississippi, Muojeke averaged 23.7 points and five boards per game. Prior to Genesis One, Muojeke played high school basketball for two teams in his hometown of New York, and played AAU basketball for the New York Sky Riders.

In their opening weekend, the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball squad defeated Denver Friday, but fell to Montana on Sunday, making their record 1-1.
On Friday, Wyoming walked away with a 61-54 victory in Denver, but fell to Montana 71-64, suffering their first loss of the season.
Friday’s victory was more than the team’s first win. It was head coach Joe Legerski’s 100th career win, but the sixth-year head coach was quick to credit his players.
“I thought we played exceptional tonight,” Legerski said. “When you don’t see film on a team, it’s hard to know what they will do out there, but we held our own. We did a good job the last minute of holding our own and making the adjustments when we needed to.”
Three Cowgirls earned double-digit stats, led by freshman Kristen Scheffler. The Lovell native put up a career high 18 points, shooting 6-9 from the 3-point arc. Senior Elisabeth Dissen and freshman Emma Langford each contributed 11 points, while senior Rebecca Vanderjagt added seven rebounds.
