8am rolled around last Sunday on a fortunately beautiful morning in Laramie, bringing with it a bustling crowd of early birds for the 22nd annul Hapi-ness 5K. The atmosphere was enthusiastic and the attendants were excited to run or walk another year for a great cause. The Hapi-ness 5K was established in 1987 by a ninth grade class at Laramie Junior High School in memory of their classmate, Hapi Patterson, who passed away from leukemia.

When I entered the main doorway of St. Laurence Catholic school from the warm Laramie evening, I was met at the door by the enthusiastic hosts that took my ticket and directed me to the left, down a short hallway, then underneath an arch festooned in purple netting and white twinkling lights, and into the gym, where numerous white-clothed tables resided. The gym continued with the purple and white color scheme, with the addition of more twinkle lights.
