As time flies, so do the events put on by the Outdoor Adventure Program. In the last month, the program has held approximately 20 separate events, ranging from its serial bouldering series, to an event selling quality used equipment.

Assistant Director of Campus Recreation Dan McCoy said the annual fall Gear Swap, held Saturday in the union, is a popular event. So popular, in fact, they’ve worked to create a second swap to be held in the spring semester.

“We do that twice a year now,” McCoy said. “The fall Gear Swap is by far our biggest. We get anywhere from 600 [participants and] up.”

Aimed at providing the opportunity to sell old equipment or buying someone else’s gear, the OAP helps participants set an appropriate price for all items. The seller, however, writes the final price tag.

“They drop off equipment [to be sold] during a predetermined drop-off time,” McCoy said. “And at the end of the swap, people come back and pick stuff up that didn’t sell and their cash.”

Cash and check are the only forms of payment accepted. The OAP takes a 15 percent commission on items sold.

“Consider it a lousy tip,” McCoy added.
