OAP offers spring events

The Outdoor Adventure Program at the University of Wyoming has some major events coming up as winter slowly begins to transition into spring.

On March 17, the OAP will have another seasonal gear swap allowing for outdoor enthusiasts to sell their old gear, as well as the opportunity to buy used gear. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Yellowstone Ballroom.

The OAP will sell gear for a commission.

Despite the spring gear swap and the anticipation it brings for warmer weather, there are still numerous opportunities to take advantage of the late winter activities.

The OAP group is planning a backcountry ski/snowboard trip scheduled for Saturday.

Kayak lessons are beginning for the season starting with the Learn-the-kayak-roll clinic in Corbett pool on March 1 and March 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The clinic does not prepare individuals for river experiences, but is a good way for beginners to get started in kayaking.

Equipment and instruction are provided at a cost of $19 to students and $25 for staff members.

Individuals interested in kayaking are encouraged to sign up for the introductory to white water kayaking course, which takes place in late March and early April. The class is taught by experienced kayakers and is offered at a cost of $24 to students.

The OAP has put together a Spring Break canyoneering and rock-climbing trip to sandstone canyons of Southern Utah.

The trip will begin with rappelling into the canyons of the Robber’s roost area followed by rock climbing around the area of Moab, Utah. No experience is required, however, participants must be in good physical condition.

Equipment, transportation and most meals are provided at a cost of $226 to students and $294 to faculty. The trip will take place from March 14 to 22 and the pre-trip meeting takes place on March 10 at 5 p.m.
