The Wyoming track and field teams competed in the Robert Shine Invitational in the War Memorial Fieldhouse on Friday.

The meet was the final regular match as Wyoming gears up for the Mountain West Conference Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend.

“We are looking to build a little confidence and get a little better technically in some events heading into the conference meet next weekend,” coach Don Yentes said.

The Cowboys were led by Sam Lambert with two personal bests in the shot put and 35-pound weight throw. Lambert’s toss in the weight throw qualified him for the NCAA Championships. 

Jeremiah James took fourth place in the long-jump with a leap of 24-feet-3.74-inches. The sophomore will enter the MWC Championships as the leading long-jumper and defending MWC Champion.

The Cowgirls walked away with eight titles and were led by Amanda Aimone. The sophomore took first-place in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 58-feet-9.25-inches. 

Sophomore Afiya Walker won the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.31 seconds, while freshman Lindsey Simmons won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.19 second. 

Tomorrow, Wyoming heads south to compete in the MWC Championships, which will run through Saturday.
