A performance of the Creativity Big Band will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Fine Arts Concert Hall. Tickets for the event are $7 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors.

Creativity Big Band is one of the music events within the three-day Teaching Creativity Seminar. The performance will feature J. Scott Turpen as the director and University of Wyoming music faculty performers and artists from around the world.

The Teaching Creativity Seminar is a conversation through scholarly talks, performances, hands-on workshops and panel discussions, according to the New Humanities Web site. The University of Wyoming is playing a leading role in this national conversation, according to the site.

New Humanities added that the conversation will center around the repositioning of curiosity, creativity and collaboration at the center of public education. It will also investigate how education will prepare students to move meaningful projects from just a vision to their completion in their work as entrepreneurs, artists and inventors.

New Humanities hopes that participants will re-imagine the university as a place where “curiosity founds understanding, creativity seeds hope and collaboration advances change.”

Events excluding performances within the Teaching Creativity Seminar are free and open to the public. The seminar will allow participants to interact with some of the most creative minds on campus and from around the world. The conference will highlight feature speakers from three foreign nations and 17 states.

One such speaker is returning keynote Richard E. Miller who will present “This is How We Dream—a Vision for 21st Century Humanities,” the New Humanities Web site said. Entrepreneurs such as Sheridan College President Kevin Drumm, who leads a panel of innovative social entrepreneurs and Professor Kent Drummond, who leads a panel of successful UW alumni entrepreneurs, will also be in attendance.
