Symphony invites guest violinist

Violinist Tai Murray will be welcomed on the Fine Arts Concert Hall stage tonight as the guest soloist to the University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra’s latest concert: “An English Enigma.”

Featuring Elgar’s “Enigma Variations,” a twelve-part symphonic piece, the concert will present the audience with a taste of classic English orchestral music. At times dark, at other times light, the music provides an array of harmonious tastes. There’s something for those who prefer energetic fun chords, and something for those who prefer the simpler melodies.

Through his “Enigma Variations,” Elgar personified each of fourteen personal friends. He is arguably best known for his “Pomp and Circumstance” marches – those that accompany graduates as they enter the graduation ceremony.

Tai Murray will be accompanied by the orchestra in Max Bruch’s “First Violin Concerto.”

Murray debuted with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the age of 9. Performing expansively as a soloist across the U.S. and Europe, Murray has played on stages such as Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, Salt Lake’s Abravanel Hall and Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, according to a news release. Cities including St. Louis, Cincinnati, Dallas, Charlotte, Oakland, Sacramento and the nation’s capital have had the opportunity to hear Murray play.

Tonight’s concert will open with “Fidelio Overture” by Beethoven and will be conducted by graduate student Eduardo Vargas.

The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. in order to avoid parking issues with the UW women’s basketball game. Parking is free for symphony attendants. Attendants should tell the staff managing the parking they are there for the concert, not the game. Also, a free shuttle is available both before and after the concert from the South Lot (15th and Spring Creek streets).
