“I had constructed all of these props, had a bespoke trailer built, and had rented a vehicle because I wanted to be a magician. And I was determined to succeed, going on tour and performing in a way equal to David Copperfield.”
Unfortunately for Jonathan, his aspirations to become famous magicians were dashed fast. Jonathan stated in the interview that he trusted the wrong person, and that person stole all he had worked so hard to build.
“I was conned, and the person who took my belongings effectively forced me out of business. I was unable to execute.”
Jonathan continued to explain to People that those weren’t the only issues he had. Jonathan put a lot of money into his act because he thought he would make a good magician, and he had to pay it back after it was stolen. At the time Jonathan felt completely crushed, so he filed for bankruptcy.
“I still owed so much money. It was quite embarrassing for me to have made such a foolish mistake and to have been taken advantage of, and it would have taken me a very long time to pay off this debt. something I kept hidden from my parents because they would never have permitted me to file for bankruptcy or experience any other hardship. I didn’t want to ask for a handout, though. I therefore declared bankruptcy.”
Jonathan continued thinking back on his choice to file for bankruptcy. Jonathan acknowledged that filing for bankruptcy was a grave error for him during that same interview.
“I’ll confess it now: I believe that was the worst financial decision I’ve ever made because I could have paid that off over the course of maybe five or six years. However, I felt depressed.”
Some more statements from the Property Brothers’ People interview were included in an article that PopSugar published in September 2017. That report disclosed that Drew aspired to become an entertainer, much like his twin brother.
In Drew’s instance, he put a lot of effort into realizing his dream of being an actor. “I moved to Vancouver to pursue that, where I was enrolled in acting classes, establishing connections, and taking all the necessary steps to ensure my visibility.”
Although it is commendable that he made an effort to pursue his goals, Drew’s attempts to become an actor failed miserably, costing him a lot of money.
