During the segment of the show where the former Republican presidential candidate receives questions from viewers, Robertson was asked what counsel he would offer to a buddy whose wife began suffering from an incurable neurological illness after he began dating another woman.

Robertson stated, “I know that sounds horrible, but if he’s going to do something, he should divorce her and start over, but make sure she gets custody and someone to care for her.”

The head of the Christian Broadcasting Network, which airs the “700 Club,” stated that he would not “impose guilt” on anyone who divorces a spouse with the condition, but added, “Get an ethicist other than me to give you the answer.”

Terry Meeuwsen, Robertson’s co-host, asked him about the “for better or for worse” and “in sickness and in health” phrases in marriage vows.
