Joyce Meyer: A Candid Conversation On Divorce

We present Pastor Joyce Meyer’s sermon “A Candid Conversation on Divorce” today. Divorce is a serious issue in modern society, and it’s not just happening outside the church.

Divorce itself is something God despises; he doesn’t have anything against the people who get them. We ought to put in as much effort as we can to save our marriages before giving up.

Many individuals do not place any value on their solemn promises. If you want to be obedient to God and do things his way, you will make sure you have biblical grounds to seek a divorce. God will not turn against you, and you will not forfeit your salvation, because you got a divorce.

Love is not a sensation; it’s a decision you make about how you’re going to treat somebody. The trouble is that people make emotional decisions like “I don’t love you anymore.”

Some people don’t get the concept that marriage is meant to last a lifetime, and therefore the first thing they think about when there’s a hiccup is getting a divorce. Because of the prevalence of divorce, many people incorrectly assume that God dislikes divorcees and that doing so will cause them to lose their salvation. In addition, it’s more painful when children are involved because most kids blame themselves. It’s a tough situation for kids.

Don’t enter into a marriage assuming that your partner’s responsibility is to make you happy; rather, we should strive to make it their duty to make you unhappy.

Divorce is a painful process with lasting effects, and we should carefully consider those effects before proceeding with the process. Even if your spouse has been unfaithful to you, getting a divorce is not required. You need God’s permission to divorce. You don’t have to get a divorce if you want to split up.

“Well, I want you to know that God loves you. He’s never stopped loving you, not for one second. And you can be completely restored. There is no condemnation. As I said, I was divorced when I was 22. And there are a lot of different reasons why people have to do things. It’s not my job to condemn people or to judge them, but it is my job to teach people what the Word of God says. And so, I hope and pray that what we’ve said here today will stop a few thousand divorces that don’t have to take place. That if they stick with things, they can turn out to be beautiful.”
