Where is Jon Batiste Now After Leaving The Late Show? 

Jon Batiste, a musician who has won a Grammy, has stepped down as bandleader for Stephen Colbert’s Late Show. On Thursday night’s broadcast, the late night host broke the news.

Louis Cato, who has been stepping in for Batiste throughout the summer, will now permanently take over the role. Stephen Colbert announced to the studio audience that Batiste’s Stay Human group would continue on with its current lineup but under the new name Louis Cato and the Late Show Band.

Batiste’s album We Are, which has 11 nominations this year, won the Album of the Year Grammy earlier this year. Overall, he has five wins to his name, and he also has an Oscar, which he received for Best Original Score for the film Soul alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

Where is Jon Batiste Now After Leaving The Late Show? 

Jon is well-known for his role on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as the nightly bandleader and musical director. It has been previously hypothesised that he will skip the nightly programme throughout the summer in order to devote more time to his wife, Suleika Jaouad.

After being diagnosed with leukaemia for the second time in early 2022, the singer who has won multiple awards has spoken publicly in the past about his partner’s continuous fight against the disease.

Louis Cato will be taking up the role of Batiste as the host of the show after it was announced by Colbert that Batiste will be quitting the show for good after seven seasons.

What Colbert Said on Jon Leaving the Show?

Colbert said “I’ve got news about our dear friend Jon Batiste. Now, sharp-eyed viewers may have noticed that Jon hasn’t been here this summer. Well, I have an update. Jon has decided to leave the show. But it’s for all the best reasons, including to continue sharing his art with the world.”

The host continued, “We wanted to give him a big in-person send-off. Joe Walsh was going to pop out of a cake, but Jon’s not in town. I hope he’s cutting his new album, and I hope it’s called More Grammys, Please. We have been so lucky to have a front-row seat to Jon’s incredible talent for the past seven years, and will we miss him here?

Yeah! Yeah! But we’re happy for you, Jon, and I can’t wait to have you back on as a guest with your next hit record. I love you.” “But as happy as I am for Jon, I am thrilled for us, because I have the privilege to announce that this incredible band is staying right there and that our new bandleader is the one, the only Mr. Louis Cato, ladies and gentlemen,” he said.

“If you’ve been watching, and I hope you have, you know that Louis has done a great job this summer and he’s very humble, so he won’t say this, but I will: He is a musical genius. He could basically play every instrument on that stand over there. Give him an afternoon — he’ll learn how to play Mozart on a shoehorn.”

Batiste – Band Leader of the Show

Since the debut of Colbert’s show in 2015, Batiste has served as the band’s leader. Jon Batiste, 35, comes from a long line of talented musicians, including composer Harold Batiste, clarinettist Alvin Batiste, Lionel Batiste of the Treme Brass Band, and Jon’s cousin Russell Batiste, who plays with the Funky Meters. When Jon and Stephen first started working together, they took a trip to New Orleans so that Jon could show Stephen where he came from.

Since Louis Cato was already a part of Batiste’s Stay Human crew, he was promoted from inside. Colbert remarked that he “can perform Mozart on a shoehorn” since he is so talented on so many instruments. He grew up in North Carolina after being born in Portugal and has collaborated with some of the best in jazz, R&B, pop, and beyond.

Batiste has been a part of several memorable segments on The Late Show, including a comedic take on Jazz 101, startling covers of video game music, “love riots” in the streets of Manhattan, and a jam session with 102-year-old jazz drummer Roy Haynes in Batiste’s office.
