Dream, a popular YouTuber, has spent the majority of his career hiding his identity, keeping even his colleagues video makers in the dark about who he really is. The Minecraft “let’s plays” and speedrun videos that the YouTuber, who is 23 years old and has built up a following of more than 45 million followers while still maintaining his identity, brought him to the forefront of online stardom.
On Sunday, there were 1.2 million viewers who tuned in to watch the unveiling as it took place in real time, and the video had 22 million views in just 14 hours. A following selfie tweet has received more than 131,000 retweets, with at least 57,000 of those retweets accumulating in the first three minutes of the tweet’s existence.
Popular YouTuber Dream’s Face Reveal
On September 19, the YouTuber posted a message on his Community Tab teasing his “face reveal” to the more than 30 million subscribers he has on the video-sharing platform.

The message read,, “My next upload will be me face revealing… Super nervous but also incredibly excited for the future! I can’t wait to start meeting you guys in person.” On Sunday, he uploaded a video titled, “hi, I’m Dream.”
In it, he teased the reveal by cutting his face out of the frame, standing in front of a green screen, and covering his face with the mask until he took it off and confronted his followers for the first time. He did all of this in the video.
“My name is Clay, maybe you’ve heard of me, maybe not,” he said in the video. “Maybe you clicked on this video out of pure curiosity, and you don’t care who I am.”

Inside the video he claimed that he had made the decision to finally let go of his anonymity after he found that maintaining his enigmatic image was becoming too tough and stressful. “I’ve been bunkered up,” Dream said. “The people trying to leak my face, trying to find out what I look like… it’s just a tiny bit too much.”
YouTuber Marques Brownlee and TikTok star Addison Rae were among the many influential Internet personalities to express their delight at finally seeing Dream’s face for the first time, with Brownlee even calling Dream’s reveal “one of the most exciting social media campaigns I’ve ever seen.”

Jokes and memes were initially made in jest, but the mood quickly turned sour as Twitter users criticised Dream’s face, prompting the popular hashtag #PutTheMaskBackOn.
As the criticism mounted, some content producers began to wonder if the widespread use of face filters, properly framed photos, and well manicured Instagram pages had distorted the public’s idea of what creators should look like.
Bullying a 23-year-old for revealing his face may be a new low for the parasocial crowd, but the mental strain of being an incredibly popular YouTuber already sounds nigh intolerable. The detrimental effect of being continually monitored by a fanatical audience of obsessives is well-documented.

Dream closed the face reveal video with a positive message, reminding his supporters that he is “living proof” that anyone can be successful despite the negativity online. “Anyone can be under the mask and I don’t want my face reveal to take away from that fact,” he said. “Dream could have been anyone from anywhere.”
Dream – A 23 Year Old Streamer
Dream, a 23-year-old streamer, has maintained an online presence since 2014; however, he is best known for co-creating the “survival multi-player” server known as Dream SMP with his friend GeorgeNotFound on the popular video game Minecraft.
The invite-only server became live in April 2020, and the WikiFan Page claims that its popularity stems from its “largely improvised plot and a vast history of alliances, wars, factions, eras, and characters.” The YouTube channel that Dream uses to upload videos of himself playing Minecraft has been around for three years and currently has more than 30 million subscribers.
In addition to this, he streams with a group of friends, some of whom are not anonymous. These friends include Tubb and TommyInnIt.
