From 2013 until 2016, the Disney Channel star dated her ex-costar Ryan McCartan, now 29. Although they were obviously in love with one another, the couple split up in October 2016. Ryan and Dove fell in love soon after their initial meeting in 2012. They had met on the set of Liv and Maddie.
Dove and Ryan got engaged in April of 2016 and he made the announcement on Instagram. Regarding his future wife, Ryan wrote, “Dedicating my 1,000th post to my fiancée. I can’t believe I get to call you that. Thanks for saying yes.” But it didn’t take long for the couple to appear to have fallen out of love, as they announced their breakup after only six months.
A Twitter post by Ryan on October 5, 2016, explained that had led to the separation. His note read, “Dove has decided this relationship isn’t what she wants. We still love each other very much. Please be sensitive, as this is painful.”

Dove’s first public breakup was messy, but she quickly moved on and started dating Thomas Doherty, 27. Dove and Thomas first met one other while working on the set of the 2017 Disney film Descendants 2.
The singer told PEOPLE, “We’re dating. I’m keeping it sort of… we’re keeping it to ourselves, because everything is just so more romantic and real when it’s yours and it’s private.” She also added, “So we are keeping the details to ourselves, but yeah, we’re dating.”
