Hunters Has Been Finally Renewed for a Second Season!

Hunters Season 2

The first season of Hunters polarized both fans and critics, which is not surprising given that the Amazon Prime Video series focuses on real and imagined Holocaust crimes and Nazi contacts. On an Amazon TCA event, executive producer and co-showrunner Nikki Toscano stated, “We are not attempting to humanize Nazis” (via IndieWire).

“Some Nazis go to extremes, while others have diverse explanations for their actions… These reasons fail to persuade our hunters… We are not attempting to humanize them, but we certainly recognize a spectrum among them.”

There were also charges that the Al Pacino-starring drama glorifies violence, which inevitably led to similarities with the work of Quentin Tarantino.

David Weil, series creator, told Inverse, “He’s a maestro, and I admire his work.” “The tricky aspect is that I never intended for this show to be Quentin Tarantino or Tarantino-lite,” he said.

Hunters has been renewed for a second season, proving that none of the aforementioned criticisms had any effect. Weil mentioned the wonderful news when conversing “I am indebted to [Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios] and the entire Amazon family for their unwavering support of Hunters.

We are ecstatic that David, Jordan [Peele], and the Hunters will be rejoining us. Weil has already plotted out five seasons, so there is much material from which to pull in the future.

Hunters Season 2: Release Date

The first season premiered on Amazon Prime Video in February 2020 and was renewed for a second season in August of the previous year. Filming was planned to begin in the fall of 2021 due to the pandemic, which delayed the production’s commencement.

The Prague Reporter suspected, based on rumors from local casting agencies, that production will begin in the Czech Republic in October.

In an interview with EW, Hunters creator David Weil confirmed that filming would take place in Europe in October, stating, “I’m going to get in trouble for saying this, but we’ve finished filming in the United States and will begin shooting in Europe in the coming days. So, we’re very much in production, and I hope that we’ll be able to discuss the release of season two of Hunters next year.”

As of July 2022, it appears that no progress has been done on the second season, and there have been no more updates. We only know that for the time being, everything is being kept under wraps, but Weil has hinted that the wait will be worthwhile.

He told TechRadar, “I can’t speak too much about it, but a lot of fantastic things are happening with it, and we’re close to diving in, in a major manner.”

“I’m quite eager for season two, and I believe the only thing you can anticipate from Hunters is the unexpected,” he continued. “I think the viewer is in for a lot of wonderful role reversals, twists, turns, and rug pulls.”

What Could Happen in Season 2?

Given what transpired at the conclusion of season one, the primary focus of season two will be on disputes between Jonah’s Hunters and Millie’s task force. We would also expect answers to Sister Harriet’s questionable loyalty and Adolf Hitler’s surprise appearance in the season one finale.

Following the Hitler bombshell, executive producer Nikki Toscano told Refinery 29 that she would like to delve deeper into the character of Joe (Louis Ozawa). In terms of a [potential] second season, there will be a lot of soul-searching on who Joe is, what motivates him, and how the Nazis are able to utilize him as a destructive tool.

In an interview with Forbes before to the show’s renewal, David Weil discussed the potential of the second season of Hunters going to Europe to seek Nazi lieutenants who were transported out of Germany and then vanished.

“There are millions of stories, and I was intrigued by the chance, if we were to have a second season and have it take place in Europe, to explore how stories could almost transport our characters to the past. Season one, if there is one, focuses heavily on the present, whereas season two, if there is one, might take us into the past, bringing us closer to the home of Jonah’s grandparents – his grandmother or grandfather.

“To explore one’s own residence. For Sister Harriet as well as Lonnie, whose ancestors all originated in Europe. I believe it is possible to go back to your roots to know who you are and your ancestry in a visceral way. I will admit that that was an experience I experienced.

“I had the good chance to visit the ghetto in ód, Poland, where my ancestors lived roughly ten years ago. I visited Auschwitz in order to view the [barracks] where my grandma was detained. We then traveled to Warsaw. If there are other seasons, I would like to utilize this knowledge. Returning home and seeing one’s forefathers in a new light is a concept that is viscerally terrifying, eerie, and profoundly potent.”
