Daniel Moshi Died Singing: What Was His Last Conversation With His Mom?

Family and authorities in Naperville, Illinois, said a 17-year-old boy suddenly died last week after collapsing while performing a solo during a choir concert.

NBC Chicago reported that on Friday, Daniel Moshi, a senior at Leyden High School, fell while performing in the All State Honors Show Choir for the Illinois American Choral Directors Association at Naperville North High School.

In front of the Chicago skyline, a young man with dark brown hair is photographed smiling for the camera. His tshirt is a red and orange striped button down, and underneath is a white T-shirt.

Karolin Moshi, his mother, informed the channel that her son had “passed out” during his solo performance.  “He collapsed, and we don’t know anything else.”

“He texted me, ‘Mom, I’m here’ at around 5 o’clock approximately,” she said.

“I texted him, ‘I said everything good?’ I have his text.

He said, ‘Yep, all good mom,'” she told the station.

Then, less than two hours later, the terrible phone call arrived.

A call came to me from his music instructor. She called me and said there was an incident,” Loden Moshi, his father, told NBC Chicago.

NBC Chicago says that around 6:18 p.m., Naperville firefighters responded to the high school after receiving complaints of a student who was “unconscious.” They said they took him to Edwards Medical Center, but by the time they got there, he was already dead.

An email sent to the Naperville Fire Department over the night went unanswered. The reason for death was not immediately apparent. There have been no developments in the inquiry into the cause of death, according to the DuPage County coroner’s office as of early Wednesday.

“This loss impacts our entire Leyden community,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Our students and staff are grieving and our focus is on their well being. We encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out to a trusted adult and our Student Services department is available to provide support. We are also asking everyone to look after each other during this difficult time.”

NBC News’ request for comment from Leyden High School was not met with a prompt response. Moshi’s family said he was set to enrol in college the next year and had aspirations of becoming a Broadway star.

“I don’t know how to explain it,” his mother said, remembering her son as an “honest, so pure” and “lovable” teenager. “It’s not easy. It’s not easy for any parent to go through this, because we still don’t have answers.”
