Sadly, none of your beloved cartoon heroes from your youth are still around. While the release of the slasher take on everyone’s favourite honey-eating bear in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is still a ways off, a new family favourite has ventured into the horror genre.
The Mean One, a new holiday horror film, will include the titular evil man turned nice from How the Grinch Stole Christmas carving up a roast beast and more. The Mean One is a parody of the Grinch world, borrowing its core premise and many of its characters, including the Grinch himself, to tell the story of a villain who lives on a snowy mountaintop and despises Christmas.
The Mean One: Release Date
XYZ Films announced today that they have acquired the horror film adaptation of The Mean One, set for release in December 2022, making the Grinch the latest beloved character to get their own horror film.
On December 15th, the United States will be gifted Steven LaMorte’s crazy slasher parody as a free holiday gift to all horror aficionados. The Mean One (David Howard Thornton) is a hairy, green-skinned curmudgeon in a Santa suit who despises the Christmas season and lives high on a mountain overlooking Newville in this bold new satire.
When Cindy You Know Who (Krystle Martin) returns to her hometown twenty years after The Mean One murdered her parents, she hopes to finally find peace. But he or she is soon to learn that this monster with a heart two sizes too tiny is nonetheless eager to cut the roast beast.
Who Will Be in the Cast of the Mean One?
Chase Mullins will play Officer Burke, writer Flip Kobler will play Lou, and Amy Schumacher will play Mayor McBean in “The Mean One,” which also stars David Howard Thornton and Krystle Martin.
Christopher Sanders will play the role of The Narrator, alongside John Bigham, Erik Baker, Robert DiTillio (as Don), Rachel Winfree (as a bartender), Steven Busby (as a news anchor) and Jessie Holder Tourtellotte (as a news anchor), Allyson Sereboff (as a nurse), Whit Spurgeon (as a bus driver), Ernie Charles (as an emergency medical technician), Stephanie Bates (as Stephanie).
What is Likely to Happen in the Mean One?
From the 1966 animated musical How the Grinch Stole Christmas! voiced by Boris Karloff to the 2018 computer animated The Grinch voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, the story of the Grinch has been told many times in many different ways.
Jim Carrey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas from 2000 is the only live-action adaptation that comes close to the horror genre. Something about the live-action adaptation makes us feel uneasy. This later version may have been the inspiration for LaMorte to place his Christmas-hating monster in a slasher film.
Whatever the case may be, the film sounds like it will be ridiculously campy with a healthy helping of gore as The Mean One exacts his revenge on the bustling town below his perch.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the plot of The Mean One will be similar to that of previous films based on the Dr. Seuss book but with a few new twists. The film, which features David Howard Thornton in the lead role, will parody the horror slasher genre by adopting its conventions.
