Hacks Season 3 is Finally Confirmed by HBO Max!
Hacks is continuing with a third chapter after its second instalment was met with overwhelming acclaim. At the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the second season of the comedy starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder was nominated for a staggering 17 awards.
Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, said in a statement announcing the renewal, “We are overjoyed at the audience and press response to the new season, and glad to give viewers more of this gorgeous, hilarious, moving show,”.
Hacks Season 3: Release Date
It is currently unknown when the third season of Hacks will premiere. The writers, producers, directors, and creatives are likely still hard at work on the pre-production phases of development following the show’s recent renewal for season 3 in June.
This includes writing screenplays, creating storyboards, and organising the production so that it runs smoothly. On the other hand, Lucia Aniello, the show’s creator, said in the same EW interview that the creative team was already hard at work on season two despite not knowing whether or not the show would be renewed.
HBO has announced that the third season of Hacks will premiere in 2023. If past seasons are any indication, we can expect to see it somewhere in the spring.

“We wanted to feel like there was resolution and it was really satisfying. And I think when you feel really satisfied at the end, it can often feel like something final. But Lucia said this, so I’m going to steal her quote. We feel like this is only the second chapter in a larger story that we want to tell. And when we pitched the show, we actually pitched where the series would end, which is not what you saw in episode 8 of season 2,” co-creator Paul W. Downs told Entertainment Weekly.
Who Will Reprise Their Role in Hacks Season 3?
It is anticipated that the complete ensemble cast will be retained for the subsequent season, with Jean Smart taking the lead as the unparalleled Deborah Vance. The rest of the cast includes:
- Hannah Einbinder as Ava Daniels.
- Kaitlin Olson as DJ
- Paul W Downs as Jimmy
- Megan Stalter as Kayla
- Carl Clemons-Hopkins as Marcus
- Christopher McDonald as Marty
- Rose Abdoo as Josefina
How Season 2 Concluded?
The events of Season 1 left Ava feeling guilty about the revealing email she wrote to the show’s producers, who were attempting to make a show about terrible bosses like Deborah, while under the influence of several drugs and alcohol. Beginning with a potential lawsuit and botched jokes in tiny comedy clubs and lesbian cruises, Ava and Deborah finally find success with their comedy special.

As numerous production firms downplayed Deborah’s importance or flat-out rejected her, the team went to tremendous measures to obtain the Las Vegas hotel.
Deborah achieves financial independence when she decides to self-fund by selling her comedy tape on QVC. In a dramatic turn of events at the end of Season 2, Deborah fires Ava and tells her to focus on her career and the next “mountain to conquer.” Deborah regains her reputation as a comedy “legend,” while Ava finds gainful employment.
What Can Happen in Hacks Season 3?
With the renewal of Hacks having only occurred this summer, details concerning the show’s third season are still scarce. However, the most foreseen outcome is that Ava, who is currently basking in her fame in Los Angeles, would end up helping Deborah out at some point in her career.
Plus, viewers can anticipate that Jimmy (Paul W. Downs) and Kayla (Megan Stalter), who recently launched a management business, will be involved in a comic subplot. Given his status as a Main Character, Marcus (Carl Clemons-Hopkins) will undoubtedly be involved in a romance subplot.

Everything here is conjecture based on what happened in Seasons 1 and 2. Due to the rising tension and potential changes with Warner Bros. and Discovery, who joined and hold HBOMax, the plot could be drastically altered, or the series could even be temporarily halted.
