The newest Korean drama on Netflix, Tomorrow, follows the narrative of Choi Jun-woong, a young man who is having trouble finding job when a terrible tragedy leaves him in a coma. This event transforms him into a hybrid human/spirit being and exposes him to the underworld and its inhabitants, including the grim reaper.
Funnily enough, this is when he is finally able to secure gainful employment, joining the fast-paced risk management team of the afterlife organisation Jumadeung, whose mission is to aid those who are contemplating suicide. Tomorrow season 2 has not yet been been renewed by netflix.
Tomorrow, like numerous other recent Netflix K-dramas, is adapted from a popular webtoon that debuted in 2017, providing a wealth of material from which to draw. Tomorrow, helmed by Kim Tae-yoon and Sung Chi-wook, is also showing on the South Korean channel MBC TV.
Has Tomorrow Season 2 Been Renewed on Netflix?
MBC has not yet renewed Tomorrow for a second season as of the writing of this article. After recent high numbers, it will be intriguing to see if the show is renewed.
Initial national ratings were rather strong at 7.6%, but have since dipped progressively to their present level of roughly 2.5%. Being a weekend K drama with so much rivalry, this is perhaps to be expected.
A second season of Tomorrow is possible given the show’s style, which prioritises standalone episodes above overarching narrative arcs. However, given that most Korean dramas wrap up their plots in one season and Tomorrow’s low ratings, we don’t expect it to be renewed for a second.
Given the second season is not yet renewed so there is no release date available yet.
Which Cast Members Could Reappear in Season 2?
Even though it has not been decided whether or not Tomorrow will continue, it is quite possible that a large number of the actors that starred in the first season will also appear in the second season. The major cast for Season 1 comprises the following:
- Kim Hee-sun as Goo-ryeon
- Kal So-won as young Goo-ryeon
- Rowoon as Choi Joon-woong
- Lee Soo-hyuk as Park Joong-gil
- Park Sang-hoon as young Park Joong-gil
- Yoon Ji-on as Lim Rung-gu
What is the Storyline of Tomorrow?
Made half-human and half-spirit by accident, a young man is employed by a company of grim reapers in the underworld to carry out special missions.
Most of the time, the “special missions” stated above involve people who are on the verge of taking their own lives, and the meat of the episodes consists of trying to figure out what led them to that decision. There’s a good deal of variation, although as might be expected, the majority of the articles deal with serious issues including eating disorders, loss, and other forms of trauma.
What Happened in Tomorrow Season 1?
Tomorrow was a dark supernatural fantasy about a team of Grim Reapers called “Crisis Management” who were tasked with rescuing suicidal humanity and convincing them of the value of living. After dealing with a few cases quite brashly and with much insensitivity, the show shifts to a more problem-free course.
All the show’s loose ends are neatly wrapped up at the end, albeit perhaps a touch too fast. For the first time in almost two millennia, the exes have the chance to finally put their past behind them, while the Grim Reaper learns the truth about her team’s mission.
Tomorrow develops the idea of a couple who are in love but unable to become each other’s healthy support systems as they try to overcome trauma together. As the series concludes, Ryeon has a change of heart, realises the importance of her work, and vows to do no harm.
Although the couple’s ardent supporters have been working hard to get them back together, it remains unclear whether or not they will succeed; despite Ryeon’s assertion that their love is still strong, it has naturally dimmed over the duration of two centuries. Joong-gil has finally been able to put his memories of the past to rest.
Tomorrow Season 2: Trailer
As season 2 is not yet renewed so no trailer is available yet. Here is the trailer of season 1 below:
The show has a complex world that couldn’t possible be covered in a single season, and the possibilities for future stories are practically limitless. To be fair, Tomorrow has its fans, but it hasn’t exactly lit the globe on fire, so its possible that Netflix will not renew the show anytime soon.
