How Did Chris Pratt Assist Bryce Dallas in Her Fight Against Low Pay?

Bryce Dallas Paid Less

According to Bryce Dallas Howard, she was paid significantly less than Chris Pratt for their work on the Jurassic World films.

At first, Variety reported in 2018 that Howard was paid $2 million less than Pratt for Jurassic World: the Fallen Kingdom, the second film in the trilogy. Howard, however, has since clarified in a new interview with Insider that she was paid significantly less than was previously reported.

“The reports were so interesting because I was paid so much less than the reports even said, so much less. When I started negotiating for Jurassic [World] it was 2014, and it was a different world, and I was at a great disadvantage,” The statement by Howard.

“And, unfortunately, you have to sign up for three movies, and so your deals are set.”

In addition to the movies, Howard’s compensation from Universal included the rights to use the Universal brand in other media, including video games and attractions at theme parks.

Since these sums were not set in stone by contract, she was able to bargain for equal pay. Howard stated that she and Pratt discussed the pay gap and that Pratt advocated for equal pay.

“What I will say is that Chris and I have discussed it, and whenever there was an opportunity to move the needle on stuff that hadn’t been already negotiated, like a game or a ride, he literally told me: ‘You guys don’t even have to do anything. I’m gonna do all the negotiating. We’re gonna be paid the same, and you don’t have to think about this, Bryce,'” Howard said.

“And I love him so much for doing that. I really do, because I’ve been paid more for those kinds of things than I ever was for the movie.”

This news continues a decades-long pattern of unequal pay for women in the entertainment industry. Actress Claire Foy of The Crown called the pay gap on the show “embarrassing” in 2018, and actor Benedict Cumberbatch said he would never work with women again if they weren’t paid equally.

Both Howard and Pratt starred in all three Jurassic World films, the most recent of which was 2018’s Jurassic World: Dominion, which received mixed reviews but huge box office returns. Total worldwide earnings for all three films came in at just under $4 billion.

Howard did not reveal the exact amount she was paid, but an earlier report put her fee at $8 million, putting it below Pratt’s $10 million. The actress claimed that she and Pratt had an honest conversation about the pay gap and that Pratt promised to fix it.

For various media, including video games, rides, and television shows, Howard has provided the voice of Claire Dearing. These include Lego Jurassic World, Lego Dimensions, Lego Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape, Jurassic World Evolution, Jurassic World: The Ride, and Jurassic World Evolution 2.

The first film in the series, Jurassic World, was released by Universal Pictures in June 2015 and quickly became a financial success, grossing $652 million worldwide. The 2018 sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom made $417 million, while the 2022 sequel Jurassic World Dominion made $370 million.
