To be recognized for their expertise, chefs from all over the world devote their entire careers to obtaining just one coveted star.  However, a small handful of people have been able to amass an incredible number of stars in their constellation of fine dining establishments.

We examine the chefs who have earned the most Michelin stars globally and discuss why they are regarded as the greatest in the world.

Alain Ducasse is known for breaking Michelin star records and presently has 17 stars. He now holds the record for the chef in the world, with the most Italian restaurants still alive.

One of the top chefs around the world, he has amassed a commercial empire so over the years, with 36 restaurants spread out all over the globe. The first chef to own restaurants with three Michelin Stars in three cities, he is also one of the just two chefs to have earned 21 stars during his career.

Only one chef on this listing who has sent meals into space is Ducasse, who is renowned for his masterful French cuisine.

Pierre Gagnaire, another well-known chef, has devoted his 40-year life to amassing Michelin stars. He was barely 26 years old when he won his first star and hasn’t quit since. He grew up in his family’s Michelin-starred kitchen.

The Michelin guide describes this maverick chef, known for upending the rules of traditional French cooking, as being “in the vanguard of the fusion cuisine movement.”

A real accomplishment in the culinary world, Gagnaire’s eponymous flagship eatery in Paris’ Rue Balzac has kept three Michelin stars for more than 20 years. Currently, he is in charge of 18 fine dining establishments around the globe, including Sketch in London, one of Mayfair’s best Michelin-starred eateries.

The most famous chef of all time is the extremely well-known Television personality and chef. His professional accomplishments include 16 (!) Michelin stars, several honors, and a long number of well-known television programs, including Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef US, and Kitchen Nightmares, all of which have served as the basis for countless memes.

Ramsay is very well known for his culinary prowess, on-screen personality, and hot temper; suffice it to say that there is a lot of beeping whenever he makes an appearance on television.

By Queen Elizabeth II’s appointment as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2006, he also holds a black belt in karate, enjoys cycling and being healthy, and has even participated in several Ironman competitions.

In East Devon, Michael Caines unveiled Lympstone Manor in 2017, an opulent inn and country house constructed around a storied 1760s manor. Caines spent three years of his life making the Georgian estate a premier vacation spot for foodies.

Only 6 months after its debut, Lympstone Manor received a Michelin star, proving his diligence paid off.

The list of Caine’s accomplishments doesn’t end there; he also worked as a chef at 10 Downing Street for the British Prime Minister and made numerous appearances on TV shows like MasterChef. He accomplished all of this impressively with just one hand due to an injury that cost him his right arm in 1994.

Another well-known person who has been featured frequently on our television screens many times is American chef Bobby Flay. He has been in fewer than 16 Food Network programs and runs several eateries in Las Vegas, New York City, and Atlantic City.

Flay is a member of the French Culinary Institute in New York City, which was among the top culinary institutions in America at the time. He also earned a degree in culinary arts (the school is now permanently closed).

Fun fact: Flay worked on the floor of the American Stock Exchange before breaking into the business. But he quickly decided that the stock market wasn’t for him and went to the kitchen.

De Laurentiis, who was born in Rome, Italy, was raised in Los Angeles and had her training in the kitchen at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Working at Spago, Wolfgang Puck’s first eatery in Beverly Hills, was one of her initial jobs.

De Laurentiis has appeared on several Food Network programs throughout her career, including Chefography, Behind the Bash, and Giada’s Weekends Away. She won three Daytime Emmys for her great TV work.

She is the author of several publications, including Everyday Italian Recipes, among the greatest Italian cookbooks available.

Rick Stein, one of Britain’s best famous chefs, was born in the UK in 1947. After graduating from Oxford University and co-founding a small nightclub with a buddy, Stein’s career as a chef officially began. He manages 12 eateries in the UK and two in Australia, where he formerly resided.

The couple decided to effectively utilize their restaurant license after the authorities shut the club down to stay out of financial trouble.

Aside from his restaurant ventures, Stein is also a well-known cookbook author and has appeared on several BBC cooking shows, such as Rick Stein’s Seafood Odyssey, Taste of the Sea, and Great Railway Journeys.
