It’s hard to think of a more controversial celebrity than Mike Tyson. When he was just 20 years old, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history, winning the belt in 1987, making him one of the sport’s most recognizable and revered athletes.
Tyson was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1992 for rape after a two-week trial that dominated the world’s media attention at the time of his title reign’s end. However, in 1997, he was once again called out for biting part of Evander Holyfield’s ear off during a boxing battle, and he was eventually released in March 1995.
Tyson has recently made a concerted effort to put his past behind him and seek forgiveness, making him an ideal candidate for a television series. Everything you need to know about “Mike,” which premieres later this year, is here.
What is the Mike About?
In “Mike,” we get a glimpse inside both Mike Tyson’s impressive and troubled past. In addition to Tyson’s illustrious boxing career, the scripted series will delve into his troubled personal life, including allegations of domestic violence.
Additionally, the series will examine America’s social and racial differences, the complexities of celebrity, the power of the media, and deep-seated misogyny, among other topics. The promise of the American Dream and our own participation in crafting Mike’s story are at the heart of “Mike,” according to the show’s official synopsis.
Unauthorized accounts of Tyson’s life, such as the “Pam & Tommy” series, have been aired, much to the dismay of the still alive and understandably enraged Mike Tyson. “Tone-deaf cultural exploitation of the Tyson Life Story,” he wrote in an Instagram post that has since been deleted.
It’s understandable that he’s enraged, given Tyson’s tangled — and, to put it mildly, unredeemable — history. Karen Gist, the show’s creator, has also stated that the show is not an attempt to glorify or villainize his life.
While maintaining true to their North Star of ‘no one person is one thing,’ they set out to dissect an extremely nuanced and controversial individual. “Mike” appears to be following in the footsteps of “We Need to Talk About Cosby.”
Mike: Release Date
On Thursday, August 25, MIKE will make its debut on Hulu for viewers in the United States. It is not immediately known whether all eight episodes of the limited series will be launched at the same time or whether they will be uploaded gradually onto the site on each of the succeeding Thursdays.
However, as we get more information, we will communicate the distinction to you.
In addition, there has not been any official word as to when the series will make its way to the UK as of this moment; however, we will provide an update about this matter as soon as any information is made available to us.
Who Will Be in the Cast?
Trevante Rhodes is the actor that plays the role of Iron Mike in the Hulu series. After playing the role of Chiron in the film Moonlight, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, Rhodes soared to fame.
