Killing Eve Season 5 Release Date: Is a Spinoff in Development?

The spy drama Killing Eve, which aired on BBC One for four seasons, has come to a controversial finale.

In the final season, Eve (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle  (Jodie Comer) were finally able to come to terms with their ambiguous relationship, as well as the end of Eve’s search for a secretive organization known as ‘The Twelve’.

Villanelle’s handler Konstantin, played by Kim Bodnia, recently talked exclusively to RadioTimes.com about the program ending after four seasons and offered some insight on Eve and Villanelle’s relationship, suggesting that “it might be a beautiful love tale if they just end up in love.”.

While on the show, Bodnia expressed her wish that they may locate each other and put the “hatred” behind them once and for all. Although the show’s fans may be sad to see it go, there’s hope for a Killing Eve spin-off series.

Killing Eve Season 5: Release Date

Season 4 of Killing Eve is the final season of the show, and it will not return for a fifth. Two months after the formal announcement of season 4, the cancellation of Killing Eve was made public in March 2021. It is for these reasons that Killing Eve will come to an end that the show and its characters will have a proper and conclusive ending.

Keeping Villanelle and Eve’s will-they-or-won’t they relationship going through numerous seasons was tricky, to say the least. Sandra Oh, the show’s executive producer, has also said she’s ready to “end the book” on Eve.

As of now, the show’s cast and producers have all stated that Killing Eve is ended and there are no plans or ambitions for a fifth season or even a film adaptation. As time goes on, we’ll see if this is a trend or if it’s just an anomaly.

However, bringing back Villanelle from where the series finale left her is not a creative impossibility if there is a Killing Eve season 5. If Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer decide to renew the roller-coaster romance between Eve Polastri and Villanelle, who knows if they’ll choose to do so in the future? If the show is renewed for the fifth season we may expect it in December 2023.

Why Season 5 is Cancelled?

The Danish actor, speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, said:  “I mean, like everybody else watching this show, [I’m thinking] ‘Why end [the show]?’,” before continuing: “[The series] is working is fine, and is new. And it’s like, ‘Why don’t we keep on going?'”

On the series finally reaching a conclusion on Eve and Villanelle’s relationship, he said that the “journey” of the two characters needed “some kind of end because it is so complex. And I think that the writers and everybody must have agreed that it is [a] complex relationship, and where to go with it, and when it’s time to end it and when it’s time to say that we can’t go deeper into all this complexity of these feelings.

“So probably they have that in mind and [are] saying, ‘Okay, it’s time’. But for me, as I kind of miss this family, you know, so it’s easier for me to say, ‘Let’s keep on going.”
