Cameron Diaz is under the impression that she was a drug mule at one point.
When the actress, now 49 years old, came to Paris early in her career, she had a difficult time finding work as a model. Even when she did finally get a job, it turned out to be something other than what it appeared to be because she was requested to take locked luggage to another nation.
“I started working as a catalog model and I got enough money to move to Paris and get an apartment, which I shared with a girl who is still one of my best friends, she revealed while being interviewed for the podcast titled “Second Life.”
“But I was there a full year and didn’t work one day. I couldn’t book a job to save my life. Then I got one job but, really, I think I was a mule carrying drugs to Morocco — I swear to God.
“This was the early ’90s and they gave me a locked suitcase that had my ‘costumes’ in it.”
Cameron did not become aware of how unsafe her behavior had been until she was at the airport in Morocco and was asked to open the case. Only then did she realize how dangerous her actions had been.
She proceeded by saying, “[I wondered], ‘What the f*** is in that suitcase?'” I imagine myself to be this girl with blond hair and blue eyes who lives in Morocco in the nineties. I have my hair down, and I’m wearing ripped jeans and platform boots. I can’t believe how dangerous this situation is.
I responded by saying, “I don’t know, it’s not mine, and I’ve got no clue who owns it.” That was the only job I could find in Paris, so I took it.
When Cameron returned to France following her stint as a model, she handed the bag over to the customs officials there. Shortly after that, she was offered a role in her very first film, titled “The Mask.“
However, the blonde beauty admitted that when her agent encouraged her to try out for the role of Tina Carlyle, she believed her agent was “crazy.” Tina Carlyle was a fictional character.
She was able to recall: “I thought ‘are you insane?’ I don’t act, first off … it’s not what I do.”
