Celebrity rumors aside, Marilyn Monroe was a Hollywood great who was known for both her work onscreen and off. This year, Ana de Armas will portray Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, a film that will be released in 2022.
This isn’t the first time Monroe has been in a film. Many films have been made about the actress. One of these, The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes, will be available on Netflix in 2022. Marilyn and Me, with Susan Griffins as Monroe, and My Week with Marilyn, starring Michelle Williams as Monroe, both garnered Oscar nominations for their portrayal of Monroe.
Although Blonde is a biopic of Marilyn Monroe, it’s getting a lot of attention for more reasons than that. Everything you need to know about Blonde is right here in this review.
Blonde: Release Date

What Will Be the Storyline of the Movie?
It has been said that Blonde is a biopic of the late American celebrity Marilyn Monroe. The book that the movie is based on was written by Joyce Carol Oates in 2000.
It is a fictionalized account of Marilyn Monroe’s life and has a total page count of 700. The novel was once referred to by The New Yorker as “the ultimate study of American stardom.”
The following description of Blonde was provided by Netflix:
Ana de Armas embodies the platinum bombshell in Andrew Dominik’s adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ acclaimed book of the same name. The movie tells “the boldly reimagined private story of the world’s most famous sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe. The film is a fictional portrait of the model, actress, and singer during the ’50s and ’60s, told through the modern lens of celebrity culture.” Bobby Cannavale, Julianne Nicholson, and Adrien Brody co-star.
During an interview with Collider, writer/director Andrew Dominik discussed Blonde:
It’s a film about the human condition. It tells the story of how childhood trauma shapes an adult who’s split between a public and a private self. It’s basically the story of every human being, but it’s using a certain sense of association that we have with something very familiar, just through media exposure.
It takes all of those things and turns the meanings of them inside out, according to how she feels, which is basically how we live. It’s how we all operate in the world. It just seems to me to be very resonant. I think the project has got a lot of really exciting possibilities, in terms of what can be done, cinematically.
The first footage of Ana de Armas in costume as the Hollywood legend was shown in a trailer released by Netflix on June 16. The bittersweet giggle at the end of the trailer gives us a good idea of what to expect from the show.
