The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Release Date: Will Susannah Leave the Show?
The romance series that has already had you cry your mascara off is returning, so grab the tissues and sunscreen. Season 2 of the Amazon series based on Jenny Han’s best-selling young adult book series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, is now in production.
Before the first episode aired, it was already confirmed that a second season would be produced. Season one co-showrunner Gabrielle Stanton has been replaced by Sarah Kucserka for the second season of the show. Exciting!
And…it could be more than just summer. “I can’t wait to see what happens in the future.” Real-life seasons. Now, all you can see is the warm weather. Han predicted that “Belly’s” world will expand in the future, and that Han and the rest of the crew would get to experience it.
What else do we know about season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty is detailed here.
Which Cast Members Will Return in the Upcoming Season?
Belly is played by Lola Tung, with Conrad and Jeremiah played by Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, respectively. There would be no show if these three weren’t around, so anticipate them all to return.
Jackie Chung and Sean Kaufman, who played Belly’s mother, Laurel, and brother Steven, are also expected to return. Season 3 is expected to see more of Conrad and Jeremiah’s father John getting entangled in the show’s main storyline.
Will Susannah Leave the Show?
Before her death between the first and second books, Han discussed the show’s plans for Susannah’s plot line in June 2022.
“We have a lot of conversations about Susannah’s trajectory and all the cast members read the books as well, so everybody was coming into it with that base of knowledge. I would say that Rachel and I talked a lot about how I think that Susannah is like one of the most important characters in the first season,” In an interview with Variety, Han explained. “I think every single person is in her orbit in a way and they’re all there because of her and she’s very beloved by all of them.”
According to the screenwriter, “She’s setting people off on different journeys, so it was important to me that the person I cast for that part was somebody that drew people in, someone that you could just fall in love with.”
What Will happen in Season 2?
Since the first season followed the first novel, we can assume that the second season will follow the sequel, It’s Not Summer Without You… Of course, with a few tweaks.
Foreshadowing: Susannah died between books one and two of a book series that Jeremiah and Conrad’s mother died between books one and two. This has been reversed in the streaming series when Susannah decides not to treat the return of her cancer. What does this signify for Susannah’s future on Amazon? Possibility abounds.
Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah continue their love triangle in the sequel, which also explores issues of maturation and how to stand on one’s own two feet. Now that Conrad is a college student, he is abusing his newly acquired independence. Jeremiah and Belly will have to set things right, which isn’t an easy task.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2: Release Date

Will Han Be Back With More Seasons?
“It’s totally up to what Amazon wants and really, truly what audiences want. I would love to get three seasons because there are three books. So I would love to be able to finish telling that story the way that I wrote it,” In June of 2022, Han informed Variety that he was planning to move to the United States. “But I certainly don’t take anything for granted. I just hope people find the audience and people love it and want more.”
Han secured a multi-year deal with the network before the show was renewed.
