For the past three years, A Place Further Than The Universe fans have been clamoring for Season 2, and the showrunners have yet to renew the series. They’re eagerly anticipating the next installment of one of anime’s best shows. Fans expected a quick comeback after the show’s successful run. However, this has not yet occurred.
Sora Yori Mo Tooi Basho, or A Place Further Than the Universe, is a Japanese adventure comedy anime. Studio Madhouse has created this show written by Jukki Hanada.
The anime, directed by Atsuko Ishizuka, premiered on January 2nd, 2018. It aired for a total of thirteen episodes from March 27 to April 1, 2013. There were calls for a sequel almost immediately. So, what does the future hold for one of anime’s most beloved franchises? So here you have it.
Who Will Return in Season 2?

Is There Enough Source Material for Season 2?
A Place Further Than the Universe is an original Japanese anime television series. The plot isn’t based on any existing manga, light novel, or video game franchise. The anime was adapted into a manga, however, the content was already seen by viewers in the first season and thus is of little use.
So, Jukki Hanada must compose the entire script for A Place Further Than The Universe Season 2 from beginning to end. Even so, the author did leave a few loose ends and room for a follow-up installment. As a result, obtaining the second season’s content isn’t impossible either.
What Will Season 2 Be About?
When four teenage girls realize they all want to go on an Antarctic expedition together, the plot thickens.
Shirase Kobuchizawa and her companions spend a lot of time planning and preparing for the trip in order to follow in their mother’s footsteps. Both sides benefit from spending more time together, making new acquaintances, and remembering what it was like to be young.
To cope with the extreme conditions, they exchange their knowledge and experiences, make new friends and understand why they chose to go to Antarctica. They returned to Japan in the final episode of Season 2, having learned a few things about themselves throughout their Antarctic adventure.
Finale “We’ll Go On Another Voyage Someday” hints that the buddies will soon reconnect on another journey in the last episode. If the show returns for a second season, fans may expect the plot to continue from where season 1 left.
Is A Place Further Than the Universe Season 2 in the Works?
The reception to Jukki Hanada’s story has been overwhelmingly positive, garnering praise from both audiences and critics alike. It has yet to receive a second season despite being hailed as one of the best shows of 2018.
The first season was a lot of fun, exciting, and entertaining. It quickly became well-known. The anime’s arrival on Netflix increased its popularity even more. Fans are growing increasingly dissatisfied with the extended sabbatical, which has lasted more than three years.
With Shirase finally coming to terms with her mother’s death and the others dealing with their own personal concerns, there is certainly room for a second season of A Place Further Than the Universe. Finale “We’ll Go On Another Voyage Someday” hints that the buddies will soon reconnect on another journey in the last episode.
Even in season two, Madhouse has plenty to explore, including the revelation that Mari’s childhood friend Megumi also went on an Arctic expedition. Despite the fact that it has many options, Madhouse has yet to announce a strategy for reviving A Place Further Than The Universe.
If season 2 comes out then we can expect it to release in mid-2023, as till now nothing is made official and production has not yet started.
